Understanding Modem

Modem stands for modulator derived from demodulator. Modulator is the part that converts the signal information into the carrier signal (Carrier) and is ready to be sent, while the demodulator is the part that separates the information signal (which contain data or messages) of the signal (carrier) that accepted so that information can be received well. Modem is a merger of both, it means the modem is a two-way communication tool. Any long-distance communication device generally uses two-way section called "modem", such as VSAT, Microwave Radio, and so forth, but generally the term modem is better known as the hardware that is often used for communication on the computer.

In the process of sending information between two locations, the sender and the intended essentially requires the sending device (transmitter), the receiving device (receiver) and transmission media as a way for information to be sent by trasmitter for later accepted receiver.

Sending device must have the ability to translate information from a form of "interface" in the form of the word, the sound is processed as well as still pictures and objects that move. Or a combination of some still and moving images, or a combination of some object information into a form suitable for delivery of certain signals. In terms of communication process is termed the modulation process. Once accepted by the receiving device signal modulation results are returned to the original form of information to then be translated into human language again. This process is known as demodulation.
The process of modulation in the context of modem signal is defined as the process of converting digital data into analog signals to be sent through the transmission media (telephone network / PSTN).

While the demodulation process is the reverse of the modulation process is to convert analog signals into digital signals to be transmitted to the digital parangkat. When observed that definition, it means the modem device is a pair of transmission device to transmit information by modulating and re mendemodulasi information.

Data from the computer in the form of a digital signal provided to the modem to be converted into an analog signal. Analog signals can be transmitted through several telecommunications media such as telephone and radio. Arriving at the destination modem, analog signals are converted into digital signals back and sent to the computer.
